Scope and Content Note

From the Series:

The Weimer Files (1989-2006) series contains materials from Deborah Weimer related to her work with the ALC. Materials are mainly textual and include Maryland legislature bills and bill tracking materials, HIV/AIDS advocacy testimonies, task forces and committees work and related legal interests. The series also includes ephemera and audiovisual materials documenting the local HIV/AIDS issues in Baltimore and Maryland.

The Legislative Materials and Bill Tracking Charts (1989-2002) subseries contains the contents of Weimer’s binders that track bills related to HIV/AIDS in the Maryland House and Senate. These binders document the advocacy work and testimonies of the ALC in support or opposition of legislation and include copies of bills and bill charts. Several topics documented in the bills include the needle exchange program in Maryland, HIV testing, HIV reporting, discrimination, healthcare providers, health insurance, mortician notification, testing of sex workers and inmates, and other related topics.

The Task Forces and Committees Files (1990-2006) subseries documents various groups, task forces, and committees work in which Weimer participated throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. The subseries includes HIV/AIDS informational pamphlets, ALC stickers, task force work and working group files, and several publications related to stand-by guardianship and living with HIV.

The Audiovisual Materials subseries (circa 1988-2001) contains VHS tapes with recordings related to the AIDS/HIV issues in Baltimore, MD. One VHS tape was created in 1988 by LifeCore and the Video Services, Department of Physical Therapy, School of Medicine, The University of Maryland at Baltimore. The two additional VHS tapes are recordings of television and news shows related to HIV/AIDS in Baltimore from a WJZ 13 Eye Witness News episode of "On Time" and Fox 45 “News at Ten.”
