The Research Files series contains materials collected, created, and/or used by Hayward for her various academic work, museum exhibits, community work, writings and publications, research, and preservation survey projects. There is some overlap between this series and others in the collection. Materials in this series were used for Hayward's Alley House Project, and for her publications such as "Baltimore's Alley Houses: Homes for Working People Since the 1780s," "The Baltimore Rowhouse," "The Architecture of Baltimore: An Illustrated History," and other works. Materials in the series includes clippings, reports, information regarding building materials, written research notes, interviews, newspaper clippings and facsimiles, collected articles, essays and collected publications, brochures, correspondence, and other textual materials. Some photographs are also present in this series. The series documents topics such as Baltimore public history, architecture, growth and annexation in Baltimore City, industry, neighborhoods, housing styles, building materials and resources over time, city economy and infrastructure, neighborhood communities, immigrants, and related Baltimore history topics.
