It is quite apparent that demonstrations are not necessary to prevent the passage of anti discrimination legislation. Otherwise such legislation could and would have been on the books long before now. However, rowdyism, mob rule, and breaking down doors will not be tolerated by restauranteurs. Such lawlessness alienates public opinion and will influence a negative vote on such legislation. We believe that continuation of the sit-in program with its attendant rowdyism will make passage more difficult. We think the demonstrators should address their…to the government …and the general public in whose hands the final and equitable solution of the problem lies. Members of the association will not tolerate vulgarity and violence, especially when fomented by demonstrators from outside our state. Our members will continue to resist sit in demonstrations …we invite these demonstrators to abandon their campaign against members of our association which supports their objective and to join with our association and many other Marylanders to proposing prompt passage of a public accommodations law…to meet with legislators…to discuss means of achieving such legislation…” 29. We abhor the fact of segregation, but we insist on loving the man who segregates. we believe that there may be value in the …association…we have therefore accepted the invitation…to meet with them on Monday at 2pm…we are primarily interested in total desegregation of places of public accommodation…"
