Biographical Note

John Van Alstyn Weaver (July 17, 1893 – June 14, 1938) was a a novelist, poet, and screenwriter. He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on July 17, 1893. He graduated from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York in 1914. By 1916, he was the assistant book editor of The Chicago Daily News. He served as a lieutenant in the army during World War I. By 1920, Weaver was the literary editor of the The Brooklyn Daily Eagle, a position he kept until 1924, when he married Peggy Wood and decided to make writing his full time pursuit. In 1928, he went to the West Coast to write for Paramount movie studios. Weaver died of tuberculosis on June 15, 1938.

The collection's provenance is unknown. Records indicate its existence in the collections of Langsdale Library at the University of Baltimore as early as July of 1974.
