Biographical / Historical
The Friends of Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park (FOGFLP) is an all volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1983 to advocate for the park as a public resource with historical buildings, hiking and biking trails, recreational facilities and educational center while preserving its delicate environmental balance. The park is one of the largest wilderness preserves in a major urban area in the United States, and FOGFLP is committed to making the park with its varied features accessible to a variety of users.
The Board of Directors of FOGFLP is composed of not more than 21 members chosen at the annual meeting. Emphasis is given to recruiting representatives from the surrounding communities and from other organizations working in various capacities within the park. However, anyone interested in the activities and preservation of the park may be elected a board member.
FOGFLP sponsors and co-sponsors activities within the park for users, organizes cleanups and maintenance projects, maintains the walking and hiking trails and coordinates volunteer groups who wish to do community service in the park.
