Historical Note

The Commission on Government Efficiency and Economy (CGEE) was founded in 1929. Its predecessor was a volunteer commission on efficiency and economy which functioned from 1923 to 1927. This volunteer commission was concerned with public administration policy and practice, cost, management and operation of Maryland Government. The CGEE's mission after 1929 was to conduct impartial research on local and state government in order to affect higher standards of performance in conducting government affairs.
