Scope and Contents

The Office of the Provost Records are organized into the Catherine Russell Girra and Joseph S. Wood series. The Catherine Russell Girra series consist of subject files arranged in alphabetical order. The Provost Joseph S. Wood series includes faculty handbooks and policies, subject files and material documenting meetings, committee work, University governance, the Lower Division Initiative and program development.

Conditions Governing Access

Biographical / Historical

The Office of the Provost is responsible for a broad range of administrative functions. The following units report to the office as of 2012: Merrick School of Business, School of Law, College of Public Affairs, Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences, Langsdale Library, Bank of America Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, Engaged University, Helen P. Denit Honors Program, Hoffberger Center for Professional Ethics, Office of Institutional Research and Office of Sponsored Research. The office has been held by the following individuals since 1933: B. Herbert Brown (vice president), 1933-1941, Wilmur DeHuff, 1960-1965, H. Mebane Turner, 1968-1970, Robert Seager, 1972-1976, Betty Rutledge Stirling, 1977-1981, Catherine Russelll Girra, 1982-1991, Ronald P. Legon, 1992-2004, Wim Wiewel, 2005-2008, Joseph S. The Office of the Provost Records are organized into two series. Series 2 has seven sub-series.

Custodial History

The Office of the Provost Records were transferred to the University Archives in 1983 with accretions in 1989 and 1990. A 2012 Accretion was transferred by Rita Aissi-Wespi on behalf of Provost Joseph S. Wood.
