Waterfronts

The collection documents the planning and implementation of the Baltimore Waterfront Promenade between 1989 and 2010 by multiple local stakeholders, including nonprofits, neighborhood groups, and municipal planners. The types of records include vision statements, implementation strategies, fact sheets, mailers, meeting agendas and minutes, event files, news clippings, and correspondence.

The collection documents the historic preservation and subsequent redevelopment of the American Can Company site in the waterfront neighborhood of Canton in southeast Baltimore City. Types of materials include correspondence, newspaper clippings, preservation reports, handwritten notes, development corporation circulars, and committee reports from the grassroots activist organization, the Waterfront Coalition.

The Pierre C. Dugan and Nephew Company, Inc. Records document the firm's work managing commercial and residential real estate properties in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and other locations. The collection includes company correspondence, financial records, wills, deeds, estate papers, leases, rents, plats, atlases of Baltimore City and Baltimore County, lists of materials, and contracts covering public and private real estate, including the Basilica Church and New Cathedral Cemetery.

The Waterfront Coalition was a citizens community group that formed in 1987 and monitored waterfront development in Baltimore City and its effect on Baltimore neighborhoods, communities, and businesses. It represented the interests of homeowners and businesses in Fells Point, Canton, Butchers Hill, and other neighborhoods. This collection contains materials documenting the activities and interests of the Coalition throughout the late 1980s until it dissolved in approximately 2015.
