Scope and Contents

The collection documents the planning and implementation of the Baltimore Waterfront Promenade between 1989 and 2010 by multiple local stakeholders, including nonprofits, neighborhood groups, and municipal planners. The types of records include vision statements, implementation strategies, fact sheets, mailers, meeting agendas and minutes, event files, news clippings, and correspondence.

The collection includes copies of early Olmsted planning documents and early photographs of the community. The bulk of the collection consists of organizational records of the community association. Materials include newsletters, meeting books, membership directories, scrapbooks, newspaper articles, reports, association correspondence, maps, and presentation boards for various community projects.

The collection includes minutes, general correspondence, memoranda, general reports, committee reports, case file, directories, financial statements and accounts, vouchers, newsletters, bulletins, press releases, programs, and other publications of the MCSW, newspaper clippings, and reference materials.

The Mount Washington Improvement Association is a neighborhood association serving Mount Washington in Baltimore City. This collection documents the history and work of the association between 1894-1996.

Scope and Contents Collection documents the activities of the Movement Against Destruction (MAD) coaltion of community groups between 1968 and 1988 as they organized against the proposed construction of expressway highways through neighborhoods in Baltimore, Maryland. The organization advocates for women’s rights for reproductive health options through education, lobbying and supporting pro-choice political candidates, community organizing, and research. This collection documents the administrative files, projects, organizing and education initiatives, outreach work, and research initiatives regarding access to reproductive healthcare.

The Samuel Ready School Records document the history of the Samuel Ready School. The collection includes biographical information about Samuel Ready, and describes the history the school including the facilities and property, the administration, and the student body and alumni. Materials in the collection include minutes, correspondence, reports, student and teacher files, publications, photographs, newspaper clippings, and artifacts and memorabilia.

Abstract

The Waterfront Coalition was a citizens community group that formed in 1987 and monitored waterfront development in Baltimore City and its effect on Baltimore neighborhoods, communities, and businesses. It represented the interests of homeowners and businesses in Fells Point, Canton, Butchers Hill, and other neighborhoods. This collection contains materials documenting the activities and interests of the Coalition throughout the late 1980s until it dissolved in approximately 2015.
